The original Picts were joined by major incoming groups – other Britons, Gaels from Ireland, Berenician Angles, Norse (often called “Vikings”). These have left their traces in DNA, placenames and surnames, and modern Scots and their cousins elsewhere can often trace their origins to specific localities. Incidentally, the Picts, Britons and Gaels (along with Wlesh, Bretons, Cornich etc.) are NOT Celts – that is a 300-year-old mistake.
